If you are for a short or long period in The Netherlands
in the neighbourhood of Rotterdam, Den Haag; and you like
table tennis, then maybe Table
Tennis Club Phoenix is the right place for you to play.
Here are few information about our club.
|
When can I play?
At Phoenix it's possible to play table tennis
a few times a
week. Senior players (anyone 18 years old or over) can join practice
play on Tuesday and Thursday evenings; this continues the whole year
except two weeks in the summer. League competition home games are
played on Monday or Friday. Youth players can take part in supervised
training sessions three times a week. Their league competition games
are played on Saturdays.
The following table summarizes the opening times of the hall:

League competition games have precedence above
free play. During the evening free play we use a reservation system to
guarantee a fair distribution of available playing time. The
reservation board hangs in the cafeteria. Every player is issued a pass
once the fee is paid. The passes are arranged alphabetically in the
tray under the reservation board.
Strip card holders do not have a pass, during peak training sessions
the members take priority over strip card holders.
Reservations can be made for twenty minute periods. Singles (2 persons)
can reserve for 40 minutes at a time (20 minutes per person), doubles
(4 people) for 80 minutes (20 minutes per person). New reservations can
be made only after the current reservation has ended. After playing all
the passes are returned to their tray
|
What do I need?
In any case, a pair of indoor sports shoes (no
black soles). Sports clothes (shorts and T-shirt). Phoenix has all
materials available : tables, nets and posts, balls and rackets. Most
players will eventually buy a bat of their own to suit their
preferences. All members are required to play in official club shirt in
league competition matches and in tournaments. Shirts are available
from the club board.
|
How do I join?
To become a member of TTV Phoenix you can use an
application form, available here,
behind the bar or from the Secretary. You can send the completed form
to the secretary or drop it off at the bar.
If you wish to terminate your membership of TTV Phoenix, you need to
notify the Secretary in writing or in e-mail before May 1.
|
What does it cost?
All members of TTV Phoenix pay for a basic
membership. Members who
play league pay an additional league fee that is charged by the
national Table Tennis union. Both the basic membership and the Union
contribution are for a full season. The season runs from 1 July to 30
June. Every year, the treasurer sends a bill or transaction form in the
post for payment of membership fees and union contribution (if
appropriate). Here's an overview of the different contributions:

Under certain conditions, you can require a reimbursement for sports,
clothing, etc. at the Municipal Sports Fund. Click here for more information.
At TTV Phoenix it is possible to buy a strip card
for €30 (youth) or €40 (adults). A strip card entitles you to play 10 times. A strip must
be stamped off at each visit to TTV Phoenix. The strip cards are
intended to try-before-you-buy. After finishing the strip card we
expect you to decide whether to join the club or not.
By joining, you will enjoy the benefits of full membership. Also expect
to be asked to support the activities of the club in some way, since we
are dependent on volunteers.
|
Participating in the
competition?
There are two full league competitions every
season, one in spring
and one in autumn. New members who wish to participate in the
competition can express this in the application form. The competition
consists of ten games. Five at home and five away.
League competition is played in teams of at least three people. A
match consists of two teams of three singles players, each of the
players will play all three opponents. One doubles match is played, for
which each team has the right to play a fourth player.
A separate Duo competition is gaining popularity, with teams of two
players instead of three and five games in a match.
All league matches are played according to international rules, and
involve "best of five" games to eleven points.
|
Tournaments?
TTV Phoenix Members regularly participate in
tournaments throughout
the region and the country. The tournament Secretary posts
notifications and entry forms for open tournaments on a publication
board in the canteen. Anyone interested can register, but must make
sure that you have a tournament license from the national union. You
can contact the tournament Secretary for questions about your
subscription.
|
Trainings?
TTV Phoenix has qualified trainers for adults and
youth trainings.
Youth players have many possibilities to develop their game in
structured training sessions organized weekly (Monday, Tuesday,
Thursday). Some are invited by the regional union to attend additional
centralized training sessions.
Adults can join a training session on Wednesday evening.
|
Venue and facilities?
The club facilities are located in the
Brasserskade indoor sports
hall facilities. We occupy a smaller hall especially built and lighted
for table tennis, offering ample space for 6 table tennis tables.
Directly adjacent to the hall we have the nicest club cafeteria in
Delft. Phoenix members manage and operate the canteen, offering snacks
and drinks at a reasonable price at club playing times and sometimes
into the late hours. Members who wish to support these volunteers can
contact the bar committee. The canteen can be reached on this telephone
number: +31(0)152131778.
|
Anything else happening?
In addition to training and league competitions, a
number of other
activities is organized. On the table tennis front, we organize the
following:
- A 'Phoenix League', a tournament running
through the year involving one Tuesday evening every month.
- A national tournament open to players from
everywhere, the day after Whitsunday (May or June).
- Friendly matches against our traditional
competing clubs.
- Club championships, often followed by a
barbecue or other meals.
- Family tournament.
- Schools tournament open to Delft schools during
Christmas holiday.
Several non-table tennis activities are organized
throughout the year: a card evening (klaverjas) twice a year; on
January 1 the traditional New Year reception; outings by bus to unusual
places, open to club members and their families.
Members are stimulated to take part in development
courses organized
by the national or regional union to develop skills in training,
coaching, tournament organization, umpiring, club activities.
|
Who does what in the club?
The TTV Phoenix board has six members. Board
members are elected or
re-elected at a General Members Meeting for a two year period. In
addition, committees deal with specific issues on a regular or ad hoc
basis. To contact the board sent e-mail to secretary.
Independent from these structured activities,
parents drive and coach youth teams to away matches and tournaments.
Club members helping in filling the bar schedule, especially during
league home matches; and everyone joins in the crossword puzzles that
seem to keep several members’ minds busy.
